Junior forward Emily Scott put together a career game as she scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Union to a 63-53 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association womens basketball victory over Rensselaer at Memorial Field House.
The win not only extended the Dutchwomens win streak to nine, it left them with a conference-leading 6-0 record and an overall standard of 13-2. Rensselaer meanwhile, dipped to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the circuit with its second consecutive lose.
Union, which took a 2-0 lad on a basket by Erika Eisenhut three seconds into the contest, never trailed and lead by as many as 10 points in the opening half, 18-8. The Dutchwomens largest lead of the contest was 21, 56-35, with 7:10 remaining in the contest. Eisenhuts three-point field goal at the halftime buzzer gave Union a 32-19 advantage. Katlyn Cunningham, meanwhile, scored 10 of her 12 points in the opening stanza while Melissa Mara handed out five of her game-high eight assists.
Scott led the Dutchwomen in the second half as she knocked down of her team-high 14 points, two of which came off a feed by Taryn Scinto that gave Union its 21-point advantage.
Rensselaer used a strong press to come back to within eight, 60-52 on a layup by Kaitlyn Saunders with two minutes remaining, but Unions lead was too much to overcome.
Scinto finished the contest with 11 points for the Dutchwomen while Marra added 10 markers. The Red Hawks were led by Saunders 16-point performance with Caitlin Vestal scoring 10 points. Saunders seven rebounds were a team-high for Rensselaer.
