Box ScoreHanover, NH - Union (9-13-4, 3-9-2) skated to a 7-0 victory over
Dartmouth (9-6-6, 7-3-4) at Thompson Arena Saturday evening to end a
nine-game league winless streak.
After a scoreless first period, things heated up when Dartmouth
was called for three penalties, including a five-minute major, in the
first 50 seconds of the second period. With a five-on-three advantage,
Freshman Olivier Bouchard (Quebec City, Quebec) one-timed a Jason
Ortolano pass past Big Green goalie Dan Yacey (Fort Sask., Alta.) for
his fifth goal of the season. Just twenty seconds later, and still on
the power play, junior Matt Vagvolgyi (Milford, CT) scored his fifth
goal on a pass from Jonathan Poirier. Sophomore Jason Visser
(Mississauga, Ont.) notched his eighth goal just three minutes later on
the power play to give Union a 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the
second period.
Junior Brian Kerr (Kirkland, Quebec) gave the Dutchmen a 4-0 lead,
and Junior Jordan Webb (Nepean, Ont.) closed out the second period
scoring with his seventh goal of the season, and fifth in three games,
as Union went up 5-0. The five second period goals established a new
Union record for goals in a period in an ECAC Division I game, breaking
the previous record of three, accomplished four times.
Union goal leader Scott Seney (Silver Spring, MD) started the
third period with his 11th goal on the season. Webb added his second
goal of the night, eighth of the season, off a face off won by Joel
Beal. Sophomore goalie Kris Mayotte (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) made 35
saves on the way to his first shutout of the season, improving to 6-12-4
on the year.
