Schenectady , N.Y. ( December 13, 2003 ) - - The University of Maine Black Bears ( 7-7-3 ) defeated the Union College Dutchwomen 8-0 at Messa Rink this afternoon in non-league action. The loss drops the Dutchwomen to 3-10-1 on the season. Seven different players found the back of the net for the Black Bears, led by junior Tristan Desmet's ( Strathmore , Alberta ) second and third goals of the season.

Freshman goaltender Lauren Carlson ( 1-7-0 ) took the loss for the Dutchwomen, making 51 saves as the Black Bears out shot the Dutchwomen 59-14 in the game. Sophomore Amy Rodgers ( Dartmouth , Nova Scotia ) started for the second consecutive night in goal for the Black Bears and made six saves in picking up her second victory of the season. Freshman Rachel Gettings ( Watervliet , NY ) played the final period for Maine, making eight saves in her second collegiate appearance.

The Dutchwomen will have an extended break for the holidays and will not return to action until December 31 at Findlay . Union will play Wayne State January 2 and 3 on the Midwest road swing.
