Schenectady , N.Y. ( January 9, 2004 ) - - The Clarkson University Golden Knights ( 9-7-3 ) defeated the Union College Dutchwomen 4-0 at Messa Rink tonight in non-league action. The loss drops the Dutchwomen to 3-14-1 on the season. Sophomore Kate Allgood ( Toronto , Ontario ) picked up her first career hat trick for the Golden Knights, scoring two second period goals and a goal with just five seconds remaining in the game to complete her three-goal night.

The teams battled to a 0-0 tie after one period, but Allgood took over in the second period scoring at the 5:50 and 9:14 mark. Freshman Ashley Shaidle ( Hudson , Ohio ) also picked up a goal in the period as Clarkson took a commanding 3-0 lead to the second intermission. All three Golden Knight goals in the second period came on the power play. Allgood's third goal also came with the Dutchwomen down a skater, improving the Golden Knights to 4-6 on the power play for the game.

Freshman goaltender Mandy Hanson ( Brainerd , Massachusetts ) made 33 saves in the loss for Union as the Golden Knights out shot the Dutchwomen 37-17 in the game. Hanson is now 1-4 on the season. Clarkson freshman Kira McDonald ( Pickering , Ontario ) made 17 saves and picked up her fourth shut out of the season to improve to 6-5-3 .

The Dutchwomen and Golden Knights will complete their two-game series Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm .
