Union Blanked at Clarkson

Box Score

Potsdam, NY (Oct. 17, 2004) Union stepped up its offense the second time around against Clarkson in women's hockey action Sunday afternoon at Cheel Arena but could not manage to put the puck in the back of the net as they dropped a second straight contest to the Golden Knights by a score of 4-0.  The Dutchwomen did manage 23 shots, a vast improvement from the five that were taken the day before.  Sophomore Lauren Carlson (Rochelle, IL) got the start in net for Union and made 37 saves.

After a scoreless first period Clarkson reeled off three goals in the second, two of which were on the power play.  The first came at 2:45, just nine seconds after Ashley Kilstein (Cherry Hill, NJ) was sent to the penalty box for checking.  Jessica Cloutier, who scored two goals in the game, connected on a Brooke Beazer pass.  Following a Kim Coates even strength goal at 7:22, Cloutier struck again at 14:38 to make it a three-goal game.  She again connected on a pass from Beazer.

Beazer managed a goal of her own in the third period at 4:33 to all but put the game out of reach for the Dutchwomen.

Union kept Clarkson goalie Stephanie Hansen busy with 13 shots in the first period but she held her ground to pick up her first win of the season.  On the other end Carlson suffered her first loss.

Union committed four of its eight penalties in the second period, which matched Clarkson's total number of penalties.  The loss puts the Dutchwomen at 0-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the ECACHL to open the season.

Tim Gerrish's squad will try and turn things around at home when they host Sacred Heart in a two-game set starting on Saturday, October 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
