Eighth-Ranked Hartwick Defeats Union, 10-4

ONEONTA, N.Y. Senior forward tallied six goals to lead the eighth-ranked Hartwick College field hockey team to a 10-4 non-conference victory over Union College on Tuesday at All-Weather Field.

            Cooman, who leads the Hawks (12-1) in scoring this season with 46 points, broke the school record for career scoring and moved into first place with 152 points (63 goals, 26 assist). She passed former two-time All-American Jen Motyka (Hartwick '98), who previously held the all-time record with 150 points on 67 goals and 13 assists.

            Cooman scored three goals in the first half, including an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute that gave Hartwick a 4-3 lead heading into halftime.

            In the second half, the Dutchwomen (5-10) tied the game at four in the 44th minute when junior forward Kristin Murphy knocked in a pass from sophomore midfielder Lauren Foye.

            Sophomore forward Jenev Schilling converted a pass off a penalty corner from senior midfielder Lindsey Olander to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead in the 45th minute. Hartwick then put the game out of reach with five goals in the final 22:16 of regulation.

            Sophomore goalie Ashley King made three saves for the Hawks, who finished with a 23-9 advantage in shots and a 13-5 margin in penalty corners.

            Junior goalie Amanda Meissner stopped seven shots in 70 minutes for Union.
