Dutchwomen Skate to 4-1 Win Over RPI

Box Score

Schenectady, NY (Oct. 30, 2004) Union extended its win streak to three games this afternoon with a decisive 4-1 victory over RPI at Messa Rink in women's hockey action.  It is the team's first Division I win streak, and first since winning four straight towards the end of the 2002-03 season.  Kate Gustafson (Kenora, ONT) scored the game-winner in the second period for her first goal of the season.  Union improved to 3-2-0 in just its second win over RPI.

Union scored its first two goals of the game on the power play.  Kelly Lannan (Winchester, MA) got things started at 8:20 of the first period with her first goal of the season when she redirected a shot by teammate Katelyn Aitcheson (Stratford, ONT) right in front of Schiff.

The game-winner came from Gustafson at 7:48 of the second period, taking a pass from Linnea Edwardson (Duluth, MN) and sneaking it past Schiff.  Erin Vehec (Washingtonville, NY) added her third goal of the season less than two minutes later.

Courtney Riepenhoff (Skillman, NJ) scored her first goal of the season at 10:11 of the third period when her shot glanced off an RPI defender's skate and redirected away from Schiff into the net.

Union goaltender Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) had her chance for a shutout spoiled with just under four minutes to go when Ellen McNamara scored RPI's only goal of the game on the power play.  Hanson made 25 saves though to collect her second win of the season.  Her counterpart made 19 saves on the afternoon.

Up next, Union begins a pair of two-game sets at Quinnipiac on November 5th at 7:00 p.m.
