Schenectady, NY (Dec. 3, 2004) Brown senior Amy McLaughlin found the back of the net twice and assisted on another goal as visiting Brown cruised to a 5-0 ECACHL win over Union at Messa Rink Friday. The Bears improved to 8-4-0 overall, 5-3-0 in conference play. The Dutchwomen dropped their sixth straight and fell to 3-8-1 overall, 0-7-0 in ECACHL contests.
Sophomore Kathryn Moos opened the scoring for Brown just 2:19 into the first period. Senior Katie Guay extended the Bears lead to 2-0 when she tallied a goal with 1:24 remaining in the opening period. Classmate Jessica Link notched the lone goal of the second period on a short-handed breakaway blast for the Bears. Junior Lindsey Glennon chipped in two assists in the win as Brown out shot the host Dutchwomen 39-7. The league foes combined to go 0-for-15 night on the power play, although the Bears peppered Union sophomore Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) for 14 shots during the power play. Union was only able to muster 2 power play shots.
Rookie netminder O'Hara Shipe made 5 stops in net for Brown, upping her season record to 4-1-0 between the pipes, while playing the first two periods. Sophomore Marie-Pier Desbiens closed out the game in goal for the Bears, making 2 stops in the third period. Hanson, who fell to 2-4-1 for the year in goal, snuffed 34 shots in net for the Dutchwomen.
The teams will square off once again tomorrow as they take to the ice at 4:00 p.m. in a rematch of today's contest.
