Box ScoreSchenectady, NY (Dec. 4, 2004) Ninth ranked Brown saw its offense explode as the Bears defeated host Union in dominating fashion, scoring seven goals in the opening two periods, en route to an 8-1 ECACHL win Saturday. The victory was the fourth straight for the Bears, who improved to 9-4-0 overall, 6-3-0 in league play. Seniors Jessica Link, Kerry Nugent and freshman Hayley Moore each scored 2 goals in the win, which saw Brown hold a 42-9 shot advantage. The Dutchwomen, who are still seeking their first league win, dropped to 3-9-1 overall, 0-8-0 in conference play.
Myria Heinhuis got the scoring started 1:11 into the game for Brown when she scored from long range. Moore, who was also credited with two assists, made it 2-0 just over three minutes later with the first of her two goals before sophomore Elise Nichols (Pittsfield, MA) scored from in front of net to bring Union back to within 2-1. The goal was Nichols' team-leading seventh of the season.
The Bears struck again two more times in the first with the goals coming just 21 seconds apart when sophomore Christine Holdredge and Nugent each found the back of the net. Link then added two tallies in the second period around Moore's power play goal, giving Brown a cozy 7-1 lead heading into the final period. Nugent, who also recorded two assists in the win, closed out the scoring when she scored 3:47 into the third period.
Rookie Brown netminder Stacy Silverman picked up the win in goal, making 5 saves in two periods of work. Sophomore Marie-Pier Desbiens stopped three shots in goal, while finishing the game in net for the Bears. Sophomores Lauren Carlson (Rochelle, IL) and Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) split time in goal, making 6 and 28 saves, respectively.
The Dutchwomen will take the ice again Friday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Niagara University for a weekend double-header.
