Union 2, Brown 2 - The Dutchmen (11-13-5, 5-9-3) knew the numbers of Brown goalie Yann Danis, and still, it just didn"t matter. Down 2-0 with just 2:22 left to play in the game, the Dutchmen found a way.
Brown (14-4-5, 12-3-2) captain Scott Ford would make it a 1-0 game when he scored unassisted late in the 1st period. The 2nd period was a physical contest in which both teams failed to score. Bears junior Chris Swon would make the lead 2-0 with his ninth goal on the season just five minutes into the third period.
With 2:45 left to play Union net minder Kris Mayotte (Finleyville, PA) was pulled, and just 13 seconds later, sophomore Jason Visser (Mississauga, Ont.) scored his ninth goal, as he put one past Danis. Just 1:09 remained when junior Matt Vagvolgyi (Milford, CT) would score from the blue line; his sixth goal of the season and Danis never saw it coming.
A stunned crowd watched as the Dutchmen came back against the top ECAC team, and the nation"s number one goalie. Overtime would favor the Dutchmen, as they continued their late game dominance, and out shoot Brown 6-3. Junior Joel Beal (Brantford, Ont.) had daylight on the net and would have scored, as he was pulled down Brown"s Gerry Burke with 2:06 left in overtime.
The Dutchmen had several great chances with the overtime man advantage; however Danis (14-5-4) would not give up three goals this night, as he made 42 saves. Mayotte (8-12-5) played a great game, going head to head with Danis, making 30 saves. Union sent their unbeaten streak to four games, one shy of the season record.
