Dutchwom still at a loss for first ECAC win, fall 8-0

PROVIDENCE, RI (February 21, 2004) -The Brown University women"s ice hockey team (14-8-2, 9-3-1) shut-out Union (3-26-1, 0-14-0), 8-0 Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. Sophomore Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) led the Bears with her first hat trick, tallying four goals and an assist in the game. Brown took the lead in the first netting their first goal at 13:20 into the period with senior Katie Lafleur (Aylmer, Quc) tallying her first goal of the season. 20 seconds later sophomore Margaret Ramsay (Toronto, ONT) gave the Bears a 2-0 lead off passes from junior Katie Guay (Westfield, MA) and freshman Christine Holdredge (Ashley Falls, MA). Brown out-shot Union 26-3 in the period. The Bears opened up the game in the second period. Junior Amy McLaughlin got the puck rolling (Berlin ,MA) when she tallied Brown's first goal, short-handed at the 5:30 mark with Guay adding her second assist of the day. Less than two minutes later senior Marguerite McDonald (Richboro, PA) netted her first goal of the season off a pass from junior Krissy McManus (Dedham, MA). At 7:42, Ramsay scored her second goal of the game off passes from sophomore Ashlee Drover (Bay Roberts, NF) and senior Katie Lafleur (Aylmer, Que). Freshman Lauren Deeb (Menands, NY) tallied her first goal of the season at 13:59 when she wound up and shot the puck past Union's goalie. Ramsay added her third goal of the game with two minutes remaining in the period to give Brown a 7-0 advantage going into the third. The Bears added one more goal in the third; Ramsay's fourth of the game, with two minutes remaining in the period. Holdredge and sophomore Myria Heinhuis (Chatham, ONT) earned assists on the play. In her first career start in goal, sophomore Jodi Blustin (Duluth, MN) earned the shut-out with 10 saves. The Dutchwomen will now head home and close out their home schedule against Cornell Friday at 7:00pm and Saturday at 4:00PM.
