Big Red Blanks Dutchwomen

The Cornell University Big Red (6-17-2, 2-13-0) defeated the Union College Dutchwomen 4-0 at Messa Rink this evening in ECAC women's hockey action. The loss drops the Dutchwomen to 3-27-1, 0-14-0 on the season.

The Big Red were led by sophomore Jen Munhofen (Aplharetta, Georgia), who tallied her sixth and seventh goals of the season. Junior Pearle Nerenberg (Lachute, Quebec) and freshman Caroline Scott (Toronto,Ontario) scored their sixth and seventh goals respectively to close out the scoring.

Both teams went scoreless in the first period, as Union freshman goaltender Lauren Carlson (Rochelle, IL) stopped all twenty shots she faced. Munhofen tallied her first of two at 3:06 of the second period to give Cornell the lead. Cornell would add two more in the period to take a 3-0 lead after two. Munhofen completed the scoring with a goal at 13:24 of the third period. Carlson finished the night with 52 saves. Cornell freshman goalie Beth Baronick (Liverpool, NY) stopped all 23 shots she faced in recording the shutout and her second career win. The Dutchwomen were outshot 56-23.

The Dutchwomen close out their home campaign tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM as they once again take on the Cornell Big Red.
