SCHENECTADY, N.Y.Fueled by runs of 15-7 and 15-9, the Union College women"s basketball team won its 12th consecutive game by defeating William Smith, 64-33, in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association contest at Memorial Field House.

The win gives the Dutchwomen a 9-0 conference record and an overall mark of 17-2. Union will play Hamilton (Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.) in its regular-season home finale. Should the Garnet win the regular-season championship, it would host the conference four-team postseason tournament the weekend of February 27 and 28. The tournament champion will represent the UCAA in the upcoming NCAA event.

The Dutchwomen broke open a two-point game by outscoring the Herons 15-7 over the final 9:55 of the first half to bring a 25-15 lead into the locker room. Stephanie Bishop"s three-point field goal brought William Smith to within two, 10-8, before freshman forward Krystal Hammond (Shenendehowa), last week"s UCAA "Rookie of the Week", started Union"s run with a jumper. Sophomore guard Kate DeSorrento (Catholic High) contributed six points to the outburst while Hammond scored four points.

Union opened the second half with a 15-9 run that gave the Dutchwomen a commanding 40-24 lead. The 31-point margin was the team"s biggest of the game.

Sophomore guard Erika Eisenhut led the Dutchwomen, who had 11 of its 12 players score at least one point, with 11 points while DeSorrento and Courtney Shepard each finished with 10 points. Union, which finished with a 39-26 rebounding advantage, had Nicole Cerniglia, Kelly Baker and Hammond each pull down six rebounds.

William Smith, now 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the UCAA, was led by Tanya Richvalsky, who had nine points.
