Junior attack woman Molly Flanagan scored three goals and picked up an assist as Union opened the 2004 season with an 11-3 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Oswego State.
The Dutchwomen, who finished with an overall record of 11-5 and the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association championship, limited the 0-2 Great Lakers to just one shot in the opening half while building a 7-0 lead. Senior attack woman Julia Davis needed just 35 seconds to score the first goal of the season for the Dutchwomen.
Flanagan, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the 11th game last year, was one of three Dutchwomen who had been named as a preseason All-American by "Inside Lacrosse Magazine." Flanagan, who had set the team's single-season goal-scoring and point total record as a freshman (with 62-14-76), had contributed 47 points on 32 goals and 15 assists prior to her injury. She was a first-team selection while senior midfielder Corinne Hennessy was named to the second team. Junior midfielder Elizabeth Flanagan represented Union on the third team.
Union was ranked 20th in the country in the latest Inside Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.
