Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Martinez Nets Two Goals to Help Dutchmen Capture Union Classic Title

Schenectady, NY (Sept. 12, 2004)- Union forward Kelvin Martinez (Garifuna, Honduras) set the tone with a goal in the opening minute of the match to lead the Dutchmen to a 6-0 win over Mount Saint Mary in men's soccer action on the final day of the Union College Classic.  Martinez added another goal in the 55th minute and Union improved to 4-1 on the season as they captured the tournament title.

The goal came just 55 seconds into the match as Martinez tucked a Michael Carey (Westport, CT) cross from the right side into the top left corner of the net.  Ten minutes later Jeff Marcoux (E. Hempstead, NH) took an Aaron Iskowitz (Randolph, NJ) pass inside the penalty box and sent a shot inside the left post for the insurance goal.  Carey set up the play with a brilliant cross from the left side after fighting off three defenders to get the ball in.

Union added another goal before halftime as Chris Poey (Amherst, MA) rocketed a one-timer into the back of the net.

Martinez redirected a short cross into the left side again for his second goal of the game in the 55th minute.

Dutchmen goalkeepers Kevin O'Connor (Reston, VA) and Ian Solon (Bellmore, NY) split time in net to keep the shutout.
