(Jan. 16, 2004) After one scoreless period of hockey Quinnipiac erupted for six goals in the second period on its way to an 8-1 win over Union Sunday afternoon at Messa Rink. Eight different players scored for the Bobcats. Union registered its only goal with the last score of the game. Sophomore Elise Nichols (Pittsfield, MA) came up with her eighth goal of the season. The loss was the Dutchwomen's 14th straight as they fall to 3-16-1 while Quinnipiac improves to 4-16-1.
Quinnipiac's Erin Sweet started off the scoring with her first goal of the season just 1:28 into the second period. It would be the start of a four-goal outburst by Quinnipiac in a four-minute span. Karrah Stephen scored a power play goal for the Bobcats' third goal of the game following a tally by Ashley Jaffray. Aimee Whitaker wrapped up the second period scoring with another power play mark at 19:07.
In the third period Kristen Alcorn scored the third power play goal for Quinnipiac at 7:51 and Jackie Kendrick came through on a short handed chance at 8:34.
Nichols struck for Union at 13:48 off a centering feed from Ashley Kilstein (Cherry Hill, N.J.). It was Kilstein's ninth assist on the season.
Catharine Lapare had 16 saves in goal for Quinnipiac. Union starter Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) made 14 saves before being replaced early in the second period. Lauren Carlson (Rochelle, IL) finished up the game, making 20 saves on the day.
Union was outshot 42-17 for the game and finished 0-for-10 on the power play.
