#5 St. Lawrence sweeps Union

Schenectady, NY (Jan. 22, 2005) Fifth ranked St. Lawrence struck twice in the opening period and never looked back, polishing off a perfect weekend on the road at Union with a 7-0 win.  The victory upped the Saints' record to 17-4-3 overall, 7-2-1 in ECACHL play.  The Dutchwomen sunk to 3-18-1 on the year, 0-12-0 in league play.

Junior defensemen Kate Michael started the scoring for St. Lawrence at the 4:32 mark, and assisted on senior Christin Powers' goal at 16:13 to give the Saints a 2-0 first period lead.  The guests again dominated the opening period of play by holding an 18-4 shot advantage. 

Emilie Berlinguette made it 3-0 just over a minute into the second period for the Saints, while teammates Rebecca Russell and Casey Hughes each tacked on another goal to give St. Lawrence a 5-0 lead heading into the final period. 

Crystal Connors and Berlinguette scored the game's final goals in the third period as the Saints bested the Dutchwomen 52-14 in shots for the game. 

Union sophomore netminder Lauren Carlson (Rochelle, IL) made 45 saves in net, while Saints counterpart Lea Armendariz was credited with 14 stops and picked up her first shutout of the season.

The Dutchwomen will look to snap their 16-game skid when they return to the ice Friday night, January 28, when they host ECACHL foe Vermont.
