Cagianello Helps Union Rally Past SLU, 76-70

 CANTON, NYJunior guard John Cagianello's three-point field goal with 5:02 left to play broke a 59-59 tie and lifted the Union past St. Lawrence, 76-70, in a key Liberty League matchup.  The victory enabled the Dutchmen to stay in a three-way tie for third place with their 4-3 circuit record, one game behind front-runners Hobart and Hamilton.

Cagianello, who poured in 23 points, increased Union's lead to five, 65-55, with another three-point field goal before a layup and follow-up free throw by senior forward Devon Bruce gave the Dutchmen a 68-60 advantage with 2:42 remaining in the game.

The Saints used a three-pointer by Matt Blue to draw to within five, 68-63, before Union connected on all eight of its free throw opportunities in the game's final 42 seconds.  Junior guard Chris Murphy knocked down a pair of charity shots before Cagianello hit four in a row.  Sophomore guard Joe Mackey rounded out the scoring with two free throws with one second remaining.

Bruce finished with 16 points while Murphy and Mackey each added 10.  Murphy also contributed four assists, giving him 12 helpers in Union's two weekend wins.
