Box ScoreHanover, NH (Jan. 8, 2004) Dartmouth rolled once again to a big win, this time overpowering Union 10-1 in women's hockey action at Thompson Arena to close out the two-game series. Goaltender Lauren Carlson (Rochelle, IL) made 58 saves for the Dutchwomen, including 26 in the first period to hold the Big Green to just a 2-0 lead. Union was unable to respond though until the third period and fall to 3-15-1 overall and 0-10 in the league. Dartmouth improves to 15-1 and 8-0 in the ECACHL.
Katie Weatherston continued her outstanding play with two goals in the game to give her five on the weekend. Teammate Tiffany Hagge kept pace with her second straight hat trick. Gillian Apps came up with one goal for Dartmouth which proved to be the game winner at 17:05 of the first period.
Trailing by just two after the opening period, Union's defense broke down, opening the door for a five-goal outburst by the Big Green in the second stanza. Hagge led the way, scoring two of her goals.
Union's lone goal came at 16:28 of the third period when Courtney Riepenhoff (Skillman, NJ) notched her third goal of the season off a feed from freshman Stephanie Armstrong (Stoneham, MA) with the second assist going to Stephanie Burlton (Coquitlam, BC). It was Burlton's second point in as many games.
Dartmouth goaltender Christine Capuano recorded 15 saves for her seventh win of the season.
Union returns home next weekend to host Quinnipiac on Sunday, January 16th at 2:00 p.m.
