Box ScoreHoboken, N.J. (October 1, 2005) Union saw its unbeaten streak halted at the hand of Stevens Tech. Saturday evening in a 2-1 setback. Following a scoreless first half, the two teams combined for three goals. The Dutchwomen struck first, but conceded the game's next two and could not produce the equalizer. The loss was Union's first of the season and put their record at 7-1-1 while the Ducks improved to 10-1.
Following a scoreless first half, Union's Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional) got things going with a rebound shot off a corner kick in the 48th minute past goalie Erica Midttveit who made two saves on the day. It was Cuozzo's sixth goal of the season.
Lorrie Brabender came up with the equalizer at 59:56 when she lofted the ball into the right corner past Union goalie Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) who finished with four saves.
The game remained tied until Cristina Fulgencio came away with the game-winner in the 78th minute off an assist from Brabender.
Union held a slight 11-7 advantage in shots. They also had 10 corner kicks while the Ducks did not have any.
The win avenged a 5-0 loss Stevens suffered to Union in the NCAA Tournament in 2003.
Union looks to get back on track when they continue a four-game road trip against Liberty League foe Hamilton on Friday, October 7th at 4:00 p.m.
