Union wins for 10th time of season, 9-0 at Elmira

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Union College won for the 10th time in the 2005 men's soccer season with a 9-0 victory at Elmira College Tuesday.

The Dutchmen got goals from nine different players in the victory to improve to 10-2-1 overall in this non-league contest. The Soaring Eagles fell to 4-8.

Union had a 29-3 shot advantage in the game, including an 18-0 advantage in the first half en route to a 5-0 lead at halftime. The Dutchmen also had an 18-0 advantage in corners.

Goal scorers in the first half were Casey Ftorek (Bedford, MA/Taft School), Chris Poey (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional), Matt Acciani (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), Andrew Jacobson (Morristown, NJ/Morristown), and Jon Bellock (Manchester, CT/Loomis Chaffee). In the second half, the Dutchmen received tallies from Brian Wade (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), Jonah Silk (Woodbridge, CT/Amity Regional), Kevin Donovan (Hanover, MA/Boston College High) and Justin Merolla (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck). Jacobson and Merolla also added assists in the win.

Rob Kramer (Westport, CT/Staples) played over 35 minutes to start the game for Union, while two other goalies also got the opportunity to play in this contest, Rob Shirley (Wrentham, MA/King Phillip) and Harris Fendell (Short Hills, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep).

Union, undefeated in 12 of the last 13 games, will host Skidmore Saturday night in Liberty League play at 6 p.m.
