Box ScoreSCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Junior forward Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs) scored three goals to lead Union to a 7-2 field hockey victory over Elmira at Bailey Field Friday afternoon.
The Dutchwomen evened their season record at 7-7 and snapped a two-game losing streak, while the Soaring Eagles fell to 4-8 on the year.
Union took a 5-1 lead at halftime. Ann Hanson (White River Junction, VT/Hartford) scored at just under three minutes into the game, and the Dutchwomen scored back-to-back goals at 9:06 and 9:28 from Trotter and Kristin Murphy (Branford, CT/Branford). Trotter notched her second of the day over 22 minutes intot he contest, but Jackie Thomas (Windsor, NY/Windsor) scored the first Elmira tally of the day at 26:38. with under three minutes remaining in the first half, Murphy scored her second of the day and team-best 13th of the season.
Elmira's Ann Yager (Greene, NY/Greene) scored in the 43rd minute, but Hanson and Trotter added insurance goals later in the contest.
Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/Kennebunk) made seven saves in over 62 minutes of work, while Liz Stanford (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) stopped two in seeing action in the game for Union. Elmira goalie Ann Phillips (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) stopped 11, also in over 62 minutes, and A.J. Lapidus (West Nyack, NY/West Nyack) did not make a save in nearly eight minutes.
Union had a 28-22 shot advantage, including 18-8 in the second half, and Elmira had 13 corners while the Dutchwomen had five.
Union returns home October 18 to host Hartwick at 4 p.m.
