Box ScorePotsdam, NY (Oct. 21, 2005) Leading by a goal at the end of the second half, the Union women's soccer team shifted it's offense into overdrive by scoring eight, second half goals on its way to a 9-0 win at Clarkson in Liberty League play. Senior Erika Eisenhut (Mohaw, NY/Mohawk) scored four goals in the game and assisted on the game-winner. The Dutchwomen remain unbeated in Liberty League play and remain in a first place tie with William Smith with a 5-0-1 mark and have an overall record of 12-1-2. The Golden Knights fell to 5-9-1 overall and 0-5-0 in league play.
While Union had several chances in the first half but Clarkson goalkeeper Lauren Arredondo (Allendale, NJ) was able to stave off the top offensive team in the league, making five saves. The Dutchwomen broke through in the 25th minute though to make it 1-0 after Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) connected on a cross by Eisenhut.
The second half saw a flurry of goals by the Dutchmen as they quickly put the game out of reach. Eisenhut got things going just over two minutes into the half, converting on a cross in front from Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk MA/King Phillip Regional). Eisenhut added goals at 47:03, 55:35, 57:10, and 58:09 in a five-goal burst that saw Union take a 6-0 lead. Cuozzo fell in after Eisenhut's first goal with her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 56th minute.
Ashley Brown (Plainville, CT/Suffield Academy) came off the bench to notch a pair of goals for the Dutchwomen and Karen Bertasso (Scotia, NY/Scotia) added the finishing touches with eight seconds left, scoring her second goal of the season.
Arredondo finished the game with nine saves in 90 minutes while Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) and Kaitlin Graham (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) combined for the shutout win. Gawronski stopped two shots, both in the first half, in 76:11 of play and Graham did not face a shot on goal in the final 13:49.
Union out shot the Golden Knights 28-3 overall and owned a 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
