Box Score

Canton, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2005) Union extended its win streak to five games with a 5-0 win over St. Lawrence in women's Liberty League soccer action at Sandy MacAllaster Field. Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) scored the game-winner in the 14th minute for her 11th goal of the season. The Dutchwomen improved to 13-1-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the league to finish in a first-place tie with William Smith.  With the loss, SLU falls to 4-7-2 overall, 1-5-0 in league.

Cuozzo scored on an assist from Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk, NY) who sent the ball into the penalty box from the right corner of the field. Cuozzo laid in wait and after collecting the ball, found the lower left corner for the go-ahead strike.

Union came out in the second half and scored four more goals to put the game out of reach. Just over five minutes in, Marissa VanWoeart (Schenectady, NY) scored an unassisted goal when she slipped past a Saints defender and buried a shot in the upper left corner past goalie Carly Draper who was kept busy all day and finished with 12 saves. Just under 12 minutes later, Eisenhut scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 in favor of the Dutchwomen.

Cassandra Mariani (Boonton, NJ) added two goals within two minutes of each with the first coming in the 70th minute. Eisenhut assisted on Mariani's first goal when she threaded a pass into the penalty box and Mariani tucked the ball into the lower right corner. Her second came off a direct free kick taken by Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT). Mariani won the ball in the air and headed it home to wrap up the scoring.

Draper notched 12 saves in the net for the Saints, as Union took 26 shots on the day.  Dutchwomen goalie Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY) made 3 saves as she combined with Caitlin Graham (Orchard Park, NY) for the shutout. St. Lawrence managed four total shots in the game. Union also led in corners, with a 9 to 1 advantage.

Union plays at Nazareth in its next match on Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m.
