Murphy scores two in 4-1 win over Vassar

SCHENECTADY, NY-- Senior forward Kristin Murphy (Branford, CT/ Branford) scored twice bringing her record to 15 goals on the season in a 4-1 Liberty League victory over Vassar College Liberty League Saturday afternoon at College Park field.

This win brought Union's record to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in Liberty League while the Brewers fell to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the League.

Sarah Klopher (Hollis, NH/ Lawrence Academy) started the game off with the first goal from two yards out with an assist from Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, MO/ John Burroughs) at 26:05. Vassar quickly responsed with a goal by Lizzy Werley-Prieto (Portland, ME/ North Yarmouth Academy) off of a rebound by Catherine Twardy (Sherborn, MA/ Dover-Sherbone Regional) at 31:30. In the begining of the second half, Trotter scored her 13th goal of the season off of a corner followed by Murphy's two goals to end the game.

Freshman goalie Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/Kennebunk) had five saves while Vassar's keeper Taylor Herman (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had 14 in the 70 minutes of play.

Union had a 26-7 shot advantage in the game and a 14-7 advantage in corners.

The Dutchwomen will host Oneonta Thursday at 4 p.m. to be played at Bailey Field. Vassar will host Manhattanville on Thursday at 4 p.m.
