Poey and Ftorek score two each to lead Dutchmen to 5-2 win over Nazareth

Schenectady, NY --Sophomores Chris Poey (Amherst, Ma/Amherst Regioinal) and Casey Ftorek (Bedford, MA/Taft School) each had two goals in the Dutchmen's 5-2 victory over Nazareth at College Park Field on Saturday.  Union improved to 14-2-1 as the Golden Flyers fell to 6-9-3 in both teams' final regular season match.

Poey had two goals within two minutes of each other in the first half for the Dutchmen. The first came at 14:26 off of a service from Jon Bellock (Manchester, CT/ Loomis Chaffee 3) and Ftorek. The second was unassisted at 16:15 from the top of the box.

Ftorek followed up in the second half with two more unanswered goals also within two minutes of each other. His first came at 63:07 off an assist from Poey at the top of the box. His second, at 65:20, was assisted by Mark Susko (Short Hills, NJ/Pingry School). The Dutchmen scoring was closed out by Brian Wade (Scotia, NY/Scotia/Glenbille) with a shot just inside the box off of a service from senior Justin Merolla (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck).

The Golden Flyers rallied late to put in two goals, first at 74:04 from Troy Gotham (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) and the second at 81:39 off a direct kick by Matt Elliott (Webster, NY/Charles G. Finney).

Nazareth keeper Alex Kilroy (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) had 13 saves on the game while Duchmen keeper Rob Shirley (Wrentham, MA/King Philip) had six saves in 80:39 minutes of play.

The Dutchmen led Nazareth 22-8 in shots on the match, holding the Golden Flyers to just one in the first half of play.  Union also had the advantage in corner kicks, leading Nazareth 4-3.

Union will host the Liberty League tournament November 4-5, facing #4 Skidmore Fri., November 4 at 4 p.m., following the 1:30 p.m. game between #2 St. Lawrence and #3 Hamilton at College Park Field.
