Poey scores two in 3-2 win vs. Hobart

SCHENECTADY, NY - Union won for the second time of the weekend 3-2 over Hobart College Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.  Sophomore Chris Poey (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) had two goals, including the game winner for the Dutchmen.  Union improved to 9-2-1, 4-0-0 in the Liberty League, while Hobart fell to 5-6-1, 1-4-0 in league play.

 

It didn't take long to get things moving for the Dutchmen with senior Wade Cheatham (Edwards, CO/Vail Mountain School) scoring in the eighth minute.  Cheatham settled the ball at the top of the box, turned and sent it just past the hands of Hobart keeper Phil DaCosta (Manchester,NH/Manchester Memorial).

 

Union connected again with Poey's first goal at 33:06.  The shot came from 25 yards out, and was sent low to the right to close the half at 2-0 Union.

 

The Statesmen returned the favor in the second half, with Tyler Webster (Acton, MA/Acton Boxboro) scoring off a set kick from 35 yards out.  Phillip Schoeniger (Lexington,MA/Lexington) scored again at 80:01 for Hobart off a cross from Micke Subotowicz (Stockholm, Sweden/Farsta Gymnasium).

 

Union got the game-winner with a late goal by Poey, coming at 81:48 through a scramble in front. Union keeper Rob Kramer (Westport, CT/Staples) finished with five saves while Hobart's DaCosta finished with seven stops.

 

Hobart outshot the Dutchmen 18-13, while Union had a 7-5 advantage in corners.

 

Union is at home again on Saturday, October 15 hosting Skidmore in a 6 p.m. Liberty League game.
