Women's Ice Hockey

Union edged on the road by Quinnipiac, 1-0

Box Score

Northford, CT (Nov. 11, 2005) After battling through two scoreless periods, Quinnipiac scored a power play goal just 49 seconds into the third period to edge Union 1-0 in women's hockey action at the Northford Ice Pavilion. Freshman goaltender Alex Zirbel (Clearwater, FL) made 30 saves to keep the Dutchwomen within striking distance but the offense could not solve Quinnipiac netminder, Connie Craig.

Following a slow start where Union had just three shots in the first period, they came out and recorded 15 in the second. Craig stayed sharp though and kept the Dutchwomen off the scoreboard.

Quinnipiac started strong with 12 first period shots as Zirbel was up to the task as well in keeping the game scoreless.

Leone Nicolette broke the tie with her first goal of the season to give the Bobcats the 1-0 advantage. She scored off an assist from Kristin Emerick to give her team its first ECACHL victory.

Union generated plenty of chances throughout the contest. Sophomore Linnea Edwardson (Duluth, MN) recorded a team-high six shots and classmates Ashley Kilstein (Cherry Hill, NJ) and Maeve Kehoe (Chelsea, QUE) combined for nine shots.

Union finished 0-of-9 on the power play while Quinnipiac was 1-for-8. The Bobcats also held a 31-28 advantage in shots.

Union (2-5-0, 0-3-0) will look to return the favor when the two teams face off again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
