Union falls 7-0 in series finale at #2 St. Lawrence

Union (2-10-0, 0-8-0) fell behind by three in the first period at could not recover in a 7-0 loss against No. 2 St. Lawrence (14-1-2, 5-1-2) at Appleton Arena. It was the sixth straight loss for the Dutchwomen in the series finale between these two teams. Freshman forward Carson Duggan scored the first two goals for the Saints on her way to a four-goal performance. Duggan tied the school record for most goals in a game and is just five shy of tying the freshman goal record of 22. Freshman Alex Zirbel (Clearwater, FL) made 49 saves in net for Union. 

Duggan opened the scoring just 1:12 into the game off a nifty pass from sophomore forward Sabrina Harbec. Harbec tied a career high with five points with one goal and four assists in the game. Duggan and Harbec connected again at 3:48 in the first, as the Saints took a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Lisa Batchelor also assisted on the goal. Harbec got in on the scoring at 17:14 in the opening period, with an assist from sophomore defenseman Kerri Wallace.

Duggan scored at 5:46 into the second period to complete her second career hat trick. Harbec and senior defenseman Kate Michael picked up the assists. Duggan scored her final goal of the afternoon and her NCAA-leading 17th goal of the season just 2:03 into the final period. The goal tied the Saints single-game record of four held by Gina Kingsbury '04, Trisha Powers '03, and Kelly Usmail '98.  

Junior Casey Hughes tallied her first power play goal of the season at 9:01 capitalizing on a high sticking penalty on Maeve Kehoe. Freshman Alison Domenico closed out the scoring with her seventh of the season at 11:49 in the third.

Sophomore Meaghan Guckian played the first 29:24 of the game in net for the Saints. She stopped all eight shots she faced to improve to 4-1-2 on the season. Junior Kaitlin Branon played the rest of the game, making four saves.

This was the final NCAA game for Union in 2005. They will play a pair of exhibition games in St. Catharines, ONT next week. Brock will be the first opponent on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. before the Dutchwomen take on Ridley on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 2:00 p.m.
