Box ScoreCambridge, MA (Dec. 3, 2005) For the second straight game Union was held scoreless as they suffered a 7-0 loss to 10th-ranked Harvard in the series finale between the two teams. Freshman goaltender Brittany Martin registered a 16-save shutout in her first collegiate game for the Crimson, and sophomore forward Adrienne Bernakevitch scored two goals with three assists. In just her second start of the season, Union goaltender Amanda Hanson (Brainder, MN) made 49 saves.
The win completed a weekend sweep of the ECAC Hockey League series with Union, with Harvard outscoring the Dutchwomen by a 13-0 margin in the two games. Twelve different Harvard players scored goals in the two games, while 14 Crimson skaters had at least one point.
Harvard got the only goal it would need when Liza Solley one-timed a pass from the right corner from Jennifer Sifers midway through the first period.
The Crimson added two goals in the second period as Bernakevitch set up Jenny Brine's power play goal at the 11:15 mark before she scored herself just 1:34 later.
Freshman Jodi Krakower netter her first collegiate goal early in the third period to make it 4-0 as her shot from the left circle deflected off a defender past Hanson. Senior Carrie Schroyer followed just 1:05 later with her third goal of the season.
Solley picked up her second goal of the game at the 11:43 mark of the third period, and Bernakevitch scored her second of the afternoon with 5:04 left.
Sophomore forward Laura Brady finished with three assists, while Brine also had multiple points with a goal and an assist on the afternoon.
Martin, meanwhile, became the second Crimson goalie in as many games to register a shutout in her first appearance of the season. She finished with 16 stops, including eight in the second period, to keep Union off the scoreboard.
Harvard improved to 6-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the ECACHL with its third consecutive win, while Union fell to 2-8-0 overall and 0-6-0 in the ECACHL.
Union is back in action with a pair of road games next weekend as the Dutchwomen take on league foe St. Lawrence. The series gets underway on Friday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m.
