#10 St. Lawrence tops Union 10-0

Union (2-9-0, 0-7-0) trailed by only two goals after one period of women's hockey action, but #2 St. Lawrence (13-1-2, 4-1-2) scored six-goals in the second to distance themselves and skate to an eventual 10-0 win in ECACHL play at Appleton Arena. Freshman Carson Duggan, sophomore Sabrina Harbec, and senior Emilie Berlinguette each had two goals for the Saints. It was the fifth straight loss for Union and third straight time being shutout.

 

Duggan opened the scoring for the Saints just 1:19 into the first period cashing in on a power play opportunity. Sophomore defenseman Kerri Wallace, a transfer from Minnesota State, scored her first goal as a Saint at 12:10 in the first to push St. Lawrence's lead to 2-0.

 

The Saints came out firing in the second, scoring a season high six goals to extend their lead to 8-0. Harbec started the scoring just 1:10 into the period, followed by a short-handed tally by Berlinguette at 6:27. Junior Elisabeth Pahler, returning after missing four games due to injury, scored her first of the season at 7:51. Berlinguette scored her second short-handed goal of the game at 10:26. Junior Julia Palmateer got in on the action at 12:48, scoring the first of her career. Duggan closed out the scoring in the period, with her second of the day, at 14:31.

 

St. Lawrence eased off in the third, with goals from Harbec and junior Crystal Connors. Senior Jessica Moffat played the first 30:26 in net for the Saints, making two saves to earn her 10 th win of the season. Junior Kaitlin Branon played the final 29:34 of the game and stopped all 13 shots she faced.

 

Alex Kirbel (Clearwater, FL) played the first 30:26 of the game for Union. She finished with 24 saves on 30 shots in the loss. Amanda Hanson (Brainderd, MN) checked in and played 29:34. She made 22 saves on 26 shots.

 

The Saints and the Dutchwomen will face-off again Saturday afternoon at Appleton. The puck is set to drop at 4:00 p.m. This marks the final NCAA game for Union in 2005. They will play a pair of exhibition games in St. Catherines, ONT next week. Brock will be the first opponent on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. before the Dutchwomen take on Ridley on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 2:00 p.m.
