Box ScoreCambridge, MA (Feb. 12, 2005) Following a scoreless first period of women's hockey No. 5 Harvard scored five goals over the final two periods as they skated to a 5-0 win over Union (5-23-1, 0-16) to earn a two-game sweep over the Dutchwomen. The goaltending duo of Lauren Carlson (Rochelle, IL) and Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) combined for 50 saves on the day against a Crimson team that has put up 20 goals over their last four games prior to the series with Union. Carlson came up with 44 stops, including 17 in the first period to keep Harvard off the scoreboard. Hanson stepped in goal for the final eight minutes of the game and came up with six saves.
Kat Sweet scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 5:19 of the second period off an assist from Carrie Schroyer. Liza Solley made it a 2-0 game at 14:01 with Schroyer picking up the assist once again. Harvard outshot Union 21-1 in that period.
The Crimson added three more goals in the third period beginning with Nicole Corriero's tally at 3:48 for her 43rd goal of the season with an assist to Julie Chu. Just under three minutes later Adrienne Bernakevitch scored her first goal of the season at 6:41 off a feed from Brenna McLean. Lindsay Weaver wrapped things up at 10:52 with her second goal of the season.
Courtney Riepenhoff (Skillman, NJ) and Kate Gustafson (Kenora, ONT) each had two of Union's six shots in the game.
Emily Vitt made six saves in goal to pick up the win while Carlson suffered the loss.
Up next Union hosts Colgate in its final two home games of the season. The first game takes place on Friday, February 18th at 7:00 p.m. with game two following the next day at 4:00 p.m.
