Cunningham Joins the 1,000-Point Club in 66-55 Win over Hamilton

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.Senior guard Melissa Marra and classmate, forward Katlyn Cunningham combined for 25 points, five assists, 15 rebounds and two steals to lead Union to a 66-55 victory over Liberty League rival Hamilton at the Viniar Athletic Center.  The win enabled the Dutchwomen to maintain their hold on first place with their 8-2 record and improved their overall record to 15-5.

Cunningham, who became the seventh member of the Dutchwomen's 1,000-point club when she scored the game's first basket, pulled down 14 rebounds and now has 579 for her four-year career, seventh all-time.  Her layup with 17:57 left to play gave Union a 36-27 lead before a layup by senior guard Eileen Lowry and a three-point field goal by junior forward Kate DeSorrento helped the Dutchwomen to their biggest lead of the game, 41-27, with 16:14 showing.

Hamilton, which dipped to 5-4 in the circuit, 11-8 overall, cut their deficit to three points three times in the final 12 minutes.  A free throw by Tricia Czeski pulled the Continentals to within 43-40 at 12:29 before jumper by Jessica Barrows made it  43-40 in Union's favor at 11:21.  Barrow's free throw with 6:23 made the score 48-45.

The Dutchwomen then put the game away by scoring the game's next eight points on baskets by sophomore forward Tara Pezze, Scott, DeSorrento and Cunningham to take a 56-45 lead with 5:21 left.  Union increased its advantage to 13 points, 61-48, on junior guard Erika Eisenhut's three-pointer at 3:45.

Cunningham teamed with classmate, forward Emily Scott, to scored 12 points as Union took a 28-27 lead into the half.  The Dutchwomen's biggest lead of the opening 20 minutes came with 9:17 showing when sophomore guard Sarah Krammen hit a layup to make it 25-18.  Hamilton closed to within one when Pumla Sathula hit a pair of free throws with 48 seconds left.

Senior guard Melissa Marra finished with 13 points while Cunningham had 12 and junior guard Erika Eisenhut 10.  Cunningham pulled down 14 rebounds, giving her 27 for the two-game weekend.

Maria Garvin scored 19 for the Continentals while Barrows finished with 15.  Pumla Sathula finished with nine boards.
