Box ScoreWELLINGTON, FL -- The Union College women's lacrosse team opened the 2005 season Monday in Florida. The Dutchwomen lost to Colby College, 10-8 at Wellington Village Park.
Senior Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee) led Union with three goals, while freshman Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside) scored twice in her debut in a garnet uniform. Other goal scorers for the Dutchwomen were Molly Koch (Pasadena, MD/Tabor Academy), Kathy Dolezal (Clearwater, FL/Williston Northampton) and newcomer and freshman Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional).
Junior goalkeeper Rachel Beckman (Needham, MA/Needham) was solid in the Union nets, with 13 saves against Colby (2-0).
The contest was tied at 4-4 at halftime, but Colby took a 10-5 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the second half. The Dutchwomen came back with three goals in the final 4:59, including the final tally with just 28 seconds remaining in regulation.
Union will face Nazareth College Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Florida.
