Box ScoreOSWEGO, NY - Union held off a late run by host Oswego for a 12-10 men's lacrosse victory Thursday. The Dutchmen improved to 4-4 on the season.
Union finished the third quarter strong scoring three goals in the final 2:55 to carry an 11-6 lead into the final period. Oswego State chipped away at the deficit as Chris Mitchell scored a pair of goals closing the gap to 11-8. The Lakers trimmed it to a two-goal margin as Mike Strohm scored at the 7:14 mark. The Dutchmen quickly countered as Tom Simmons (Salisbury, CT) scored 13 seconds later as Union went back up by three goals.
The visitors then limited the Lakers to only one more goal the rest of the game, scored by Mitchell making the final 12-10.
For Union, Mike Sparico (Riverside, CT) led the way with four goals while Pete Gross (Larchmont) scored once and had a game-high five assists.
Both Oswego State's Al Simeone (Binghamton) and Union's Will Tamm
(Millbrook) finished with 10 saves each.
Union is back in action Saturday when the Dutchmen host St. Lawrence at 1 p.m. It will be the first home game for Union since February 26.
