SCHENECTADY, N.Y. Senior attack Kathy Dolezal (Clearwater, FL/Williston Northampton) scored four goals and added an assist to lead Union to a 12-7 triumph over Skidmore in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game Tuesday night at Frank Bailey Field.
With the victory, the Dutchwomen, now 5-1 in the league, tied Skidmore atop the conference standings. Union is 6-3 with five straight triumphs. Skidmore had a seven game winning streak snapped as the Thoroughbreds (9-2, 5-1 Liberty League) lost for the first time since March 19 at home against fifth-ranked Bowdoin.
Tanya Davis (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) scored three goals and added two assists while Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside) also scored three goals for Union. Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee) scored twice and added an assist for the hosts.
Lizzy Dickson (Fairfield, CT/Westminster School) scored two goals with an assist for Skidmore, while Annie Ledyard (West Grove, PA/Lawrenceville) and Shardae Gonsalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) scored twice each. Megan McAdams (Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley Academy) dished out two assists for the Thoroughbreds.
Union took a 2-0 lead with 18:14 left in the first half, but Skidmore scored three straight and had the lead at 9:03 on a Gonsalves goal. But Union's Lawson tied it with 5:02 left to play in the half and the Dutchwomen never trailed again, scoring three more in the first 30 minutes for a 6-3 halftime lead. It was 7-5 Union after a Gonsalves goal with 17:44 remaining in the second, but the Dutchwomen scored three straight to open it up to a 10-5 lead with 6:57 remaining.
Skidmore goaltender Sarah Berheide (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) made 11 saves in the contest while Union's Stephanie Burlton (Coquitlam, BC/Milton Academy) made three stops. Union had a 34-13 shot advantage and had 37 ground balls to Skidmore's 22. The hosts also won 12 of 20 draw controls.
Union is back in action Thursday for a 4 p.m. game at Hartwick, while Skidmore hosts defending NCAA Division III champion Middlebury on April 20 at 6 p.m.
