Box ScorePotsdam, NY (April 2, 2005) Following a closely contested first half the Union women's lacrosse team erupted with 13 second half goals to emerge with an 18-4 win over Clarkson Saturday afternoon for its second straight Liberty League win. Sophomore Alexandra Toney (Bayville, NY) led the surging Dutchwomen with five goals and had one assist to help her team improve to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the league. It was the second game in a row where the Knights surrendered 18 goals.
Union's Kathy Dolezal (Clearwater, FL) opened up scoring just 4:12 into the opening half. After that the Dutchwomen would never trail. Clarkson's Lindsey Grigg answered 8:36 later to knot the score at 1-1. The two teams exchanged the next two goals before Union came away with three straight to build a 5-2 lead. Rachel Kopels made it a two-goal game heading into the half with a strike at 3:36.
Union ambushed the Knights with 12 unanswered goals in the second half to put the game away. Toney registered three straight beginning with her second goal of the game at 23:47 to make it 9-3. She wrapped up the scoring with her final tally at 1:56, responding to an Alexis Miller goal for Clarkson.
Senior Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT) and freshman Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA) each had three goals for the Dutchwomen who owned a 32-6 shots on goal advantage. Lawson also added an assist.
Goalie Rachel Beckman (Needham, MA) made two saves to pick up the win for Union while her counterpart, Erin Duffy, made 14 saves for Clarkson.
Union will look to make it three straight as they return home for the next Liberty League matchup on Saturday, April 8th at 4:00 p.m. against Rochester.
