Union women's lacrosse posts third straight win, 12-6

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. Senior Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee) scored three goals and added an assist and freshman goalkeeper Steph Burlton (Coquitlam, BC/Milton Academy) made 10 saves as Union College defeated the University of Rochester, 12-6 in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game Friday at Frank Bailey Field.

The Dutchwomen, winners of three straight, improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while Rochester fell to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League.

Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside) and Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional) scored two goals each for Union, while the hosts got individual tallies from Alexandra Toney (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley), Molly Koch (Pasadena, MD/Tabor Academy), Tanya Davis (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Kathy Dolezal (Clearwater, FL/Williston Northampton), and Jen Saad (Woodstock, CT/Woodstock Academy). Toney and Koch also added two assists each.

Rochester was led by Emily Riegel (Delmar/Bethlehem Central), who scored three goals, and Laura Giusto (Plainsboro, NJ/The Peddie School) with two tallies. Lisa Aranoff (Rockville, MD/Walter Johnson) scored the other Yellowjacket goal. Cassie Glanton (Penfield, NY/Mercy) made 13 saves in the Rochester net.

Union had a 40-23 shot advantage in the contest and a 32-31 advantage in ground balls for the day.

Union opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the contest on a Flanagan goal, and took a 6-0 lead into the half. The Dutchwomen outshot the Yellowjackets, 27-7 in the first 30 minutes of the game.

Union returns to action Saturday for a 2 p.m. home contest vs. William Smith at Bailey Field. Rochester plays a Liberty League game at Skidmore Saturday at 2 p.m.
