Union women's lacrosse wins ninth straight

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. Senior attack Kathy Dolezal (Clearwater, FL/Williston Northampton) and senior attack Tanya Davis (Fayetteville/Jamesville-Dewitt) each scored three goals with an assist to lead Union College to a 17-4 women's lacrosse victory over St. John Fisher in a non-league game Saturday at Frank Bailey Field.

The Dutchwomen, winners of nine straight, improved to 10-3 overall while the Cardinals fell to 6-8.

Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside) and Alexandra Toney (Bayville/Locust Valley) scored two goals each for Union, while four players had a goal and an assist each, Liz Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee), Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee), Molly Koch (Pasadena, MD/Tabor Academy) and Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional). Jennifer Pike (Keene, NH/Northfield Mt. Hermon), Robyn Ross (Newton, MA/Newton North) and Meg Lloyd (Dedham, MA/Gov. Dummer) tallied one goal each for the hosts.

St. John Fisher was led by Erica Lilly (Averill Park/Averill Park), who scored two goals, and Ramona Walters (Syracuse/Corcoran), who had a goal and an assist. Kyle Simon (Geneva/Geneva) also scored for the Cardinals.

Fisher goalkeeper Jacquie Gilmore (Hilton/Hilton) made 12 saves for the Cardinals, while Rachel Beckman (Needham, MA/Needham) stopped four for the Dutchwomen.

Union jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first nine minutes of the contest, and led 10-2 at halftime. The Dutchwomen scored nine straight goals and led by as many as 15-2 with 19:19 to play in the second half.

The Dutchwomen had a 38-10 shot advantage in the contest, and had 55 ground balls to Fisher's 29. The hosts also won 15 of 23 draw controls.

This was the final regular season home game for Union, which will close out the regular season Tuesday at Oneonta at 4 p.m. The Dutchwomen, winners of the Liberty League regular season title, will host the league tournament with semi finals games at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on May 7, and the championship at 1 p.m. on May 8.
