SCHENECTADY, N.Y. Senior attack Kathy Dolezal (Clearwater, FL/Williston Northampton) scored five goals and added an assist to lead Union College to a 15-9 victory over William Smith in Liberty League women's lacrosse action Saturday at Frank Bailey Field.
The Dutchwomen, winners of four straight, improved to 4-1 in the Liberty League and 5-3 overall. The Herons now stand 1-3 in the conference and 4-5 overall.
Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional), Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee), Tanya Davis (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside) scored two goals each for Union, while Cuozzo and Flanagan had two assists each.
Kate Bickford (Providence, RI/Lincoln School) had two goals and two assists for William Smith, while Sarah Dillon (Oldwick, NJ/Blair Academy) and Jesse McKenna (Wenham, MA/Middlesex School) scored two goals each for the Herons.
Both teams had 25 ground balls in the contest, while Union had a 38-19 shot advantage for the game. Steph Burton (Coquitlam, BC/Milton Academy) made five saves for the Dutchwomen while Adele Hayward (Winchester, MA/Hyde School) stopped 12 shots for the Herons.
William Smith scored the first two goals of the contest in the first 7:22, and led 3-2 with 15:24 left in the first half before Union scored five straight tallies. The hosts had anm 8-4 lead at halftime. William Smith pulled to within two at 10-8 with 14:02 left after a Bickford goal, and after Dolezal made it 11-8 for Union with 10:39 left in the second half, the Herons got within two again at 11-9 on a Kathrine Maloney (Kings Park, NY/St. Anthony's School) goal at 9:03. Union scored the final four tallies in the final 8:14.
Union returns to action on Tuesday night to host Liberty League rival Skidmore at 6 p.m
