Box ScoreSCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Senior midfielder Wade Cheatham (Edwards, CO/Vail Mountain School) scored two goals and Union College tallied five times in the second half en route to a 7-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary College Sunday in the Union Classic at College Park.
The Dutchmen, winners of three straight, improved to 3-1, while the Blue Knights fell to 1-3 on the young season.
The seven goals were the most scored by a Union team since September 6 of last season, when the Dutchmen defeated SUNY Old Westbury at home, 8-0.
Sophomore forward Casey Ftorek (Bedford, MA/Taft School) opened the scoring for the hosts at 16:18, and less then two minutes later, Chris Poey (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) scored on a header. Poey, a sophomore forward, scored his fifth goal in the two games in the tournament. Union took a 2-0 lead into the half.
Senior captain Ryan McAleese (Walpole, MA/Walpole) made it 4-0 at the 74 minute mark, and just 18 seconds later, Cheatham scored. His second goal came at 81:03 and Zach Warner (Salisbury, NY/Salisbury) closed out the scoring for the Dutchmen at 89:26.
Union had a 36-1 shot advantage in this game, and Blue Knights' keeper Jack Benentati (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) made nine saves in the nets. Four Union keepers saw action but none of the home goalkeepers made a save. Union had a 14-0 advantage in corners.
The Dutchmen take on Medaille in Rochester on Thursday.
