Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Union falls at home to Williams, 7-1

Box Score

Schenectady, NY (Sept. 13, 2005) Union fell victim to an offensive outburst by Williams in a 7-1 loss Tuesday evening at Frank Bailey Field. The Ephwomen (2-0) scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back in handing the Dutchwomen (2-1) their first loss of the season.

Junior Rebecca Allen (Mt. Kisco, NY) scored the first two goals of the game for Williams to build a 2-0 advantage. Her first goal came in the fourth minute after she gained control of the ball in front and sent a shot through traffic past Union goaltender Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/Kennebunk). She followed that up less than two minutes later with a rebound shot that snuck past Wakeland on the right side.

Williams built a 3-0 lead before Union's Chelsea Harris (White River Junction, VT/Hartford) scored in the 22nd minute to make it 3-1. The sophomore picked up her own rebound in front and sent it past goalie Emily Wasserman (Englewood, CO) for her second goal of the season. That would be as close as Union would get though. Sally Cobb (Darien, CT) scored two goals for the Ephwomen. Her first made it 4-1 in the 26th minute and her final one capped off the scoring at 56:59 off an assist from Emily Grannon (New Canaan, CT).

Wasserman made two saves in goal for the win while Wakeland stopped 12 shots.

Williams outshot Union 31-5 for the game and held the advantage in corners, 12-3.

Union returns home on Friday, September 16th to host Skidmore in its Liberty League opener at 6:00 p.m.
