Union field hockey loses home to nationally-ranked Skidmore

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Senior forward Annie Ledyard (West Grove, PA) scored four goals and sophomore defender Chelsea Lisaius (Warren, VT) had a goal and an assist to lead Skidmore to a 6-1 field hockey victory over Union in Liberty League action Friday night at Bailey Field.

The Thoroughbreds, ranked #15 in the latest STX/NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll, improved to 4-0, while the Dutchwomen fell to 2-2 on the season.

Union junior forward Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs) scored the lone goal for the Dutchwomen, ending the shutout bid with the final goal of the game, at 56:10.

Lisaius gave Skidmore the 1-0 lead less then five minutes into the contest, and Ledyard scored the next two for a 3-0 halftime lead. Ledyard and junior forward Katie Weber (Princeton, NJ) broke it open with goals in seven minute span for a 5-1 lead 50 minutes into the contest. Ledyard's final goal at 54:34 made it 6-0.

Union goaltender Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/Kennebunk), this week's Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week, made 14 saves, while freshman goalie Stephanie Reed (Barker, NY) stopped four for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore had a 35-9 shot advantage and 12-5 advantage in corners.

Union returns to action tomorrow at WPI for a 4:30 game. Skidmore will play at Middlebury Tuesday.
