Box ScoreSchenectady, NY (Sept. 14, 2005) The No. 8 ranked Dutchwomen extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-1 win in their home opener against Utica Wednesday afternoon at Garris Field. Senior Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) scored the game-winner in the 27th minute for her third goal of the season. Union pressured the Lady Pioneers goal the entire game, holding a 23-2 shot advantage.
Union wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Freshman Sara Wilson (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) bent her corner kick in behind Utica goalkeeper Ashley Kaufman (Enfield, CT/Enfield) to the back post in the 3rd minute. Union then took advantage of a defensive lapse by the Lady Pioneers later in the half to make it 2-0. Kaufman came out to play the ball after it had deflected back to her off of a defender. Eisenhut won the ball from Kaufman six yards out and was able to walk it into the goal.
Utica came out more determined in the second half and made it a 2-1 game when Liz O'Brien (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) snuck the ball past Union goalie Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) in the 55th minute. Rachel Tinao (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Borough) sent a low shot from the right side toward the far post as O'Brien came sliding in to redirect it into the back of the net.
Freshman Ashley Brown (Plainfield, CT/Suffield Academy) scored Union's third unassisted goal of the game in the 75th minute to once again make it a two-goal game with a shot to the far post after collecting her own rebound. Amy Bell (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead) capped off the scoring with her first goal of the season in the 88th minute with a shot inside the penalty area, after receiving a pass from Bridget Duffy (Albany, NY/Guilderland)
Kaufman finished with seven saves for the Lady Pioneers. Gawronski played just over 87 minutes to pick up the win for Union but did not record a save.
Union, who moved up four spots to No. 8 in the latest NSCAA/Adidas Division III Women's Soccer Poll, will look to make it six straight when they host No. 9 Rochester on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in a matchup of Regional powers. Union is also ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA/Adidas Regional Rankings in front of Rochester who is No. 2.
