Murphy Scores Four Goals in Union Field Hockey Victory

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.-- Senior forward Kristen Murphy (Branford, CT/ Branford) scored four of the five goals for Union to lead the Dutchwomen to a 5-3 field hockey victory over Hamilton College Friday.

This victory for the Dutchwomen brought there overall season record to 3-4 and the Liberty League record to 1-1. Hamilton fell to 2-3 and is 0-1 after the league opener for the Continentals.

Hamilton's sophomore Marley Berns (Rochester, NY/Brighton) had two assists in the game. Kristen Archibald (Wellesley, MAWellesley), Kerry Leonard (Stamford, CT) and Jess Goldberg (Pittsburgh, PA/Choate Rosemary Hall) each scored for the visitors.

Union tallied the first goal of the game with 23:33 left in the first half, by junior Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs) with an assist by Chelsea Harris (White River Junction, VT/ Hartford). The Continentals soon tied it up with 15:23 left in the first half with Goldberg's third of the season. Murphy scored her first of the day with 7:59 left in the first half for a 2-1 Union lead.

After Hamilton tied the game at 2-2 on Archibald's goal 5:43 into the second half, Murphy scored three straight, all coming in an 18 minute span. Two of her goals were penalty strokes, and Union led 5-2 with 11:10 left to play in the second stanza. Leonard closed out the scoring for Hamilton at the 63:17 mark.

Hamilton goalie Erin Weinstock (Pennington, NJ/Stuart Country Day School) had a total of 10 saves in the game while Union's Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/ Kennebunk) made six saves.

Union had a 22-20 shot advantage, and a 15-10 advantage in corners. Murphy now has seven goals on the season for the Dutchwomen.

Union returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. to host Liberty League rival St. Lawrence, while Hamilton plays at Skidmore.
