SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Senior forward Kristin Murphy (Branford, CT/Branford) scored two goals to lead Union College to a 6-0 victory over Regis College in the field hockey season opener for both teams Monday at Bailey Field.

Today's event was the first Union athletics game on the new "field turf" artificial surface, which was installed this summer at Bailey Field.

Sophomore forward Emily Bryson (Charlestown, MA/Gov. Drummer) scored a goal and added an assist for the Dutchwomen, while Katie Bellucci (Pawling, NY/Pawling), Chelsea Harris (White River Junction, VT/Hartford) and Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs) scored one goal each for Union. Sarah Klopfer (Hollis, NH/Lawrence Academy) had two assists for the Dutchwomen.

Union outshot Regis, 34-3, including an 18-1 advantage in the first half. Both freshmen goaltenders made their debuts for Union in this contest. Elisa Wakeland (Kennebunkport, ME/Kennebunk) made one save in just over 62 minutes, while Liz Stanford (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) made one stop in nearly eight minutes of action.

Union returns to action Thursday at Oswego at 4:30 p.m.
