Box ScoreOswego, NY (Sept. 8, 2005) Junior Hillary Benoit (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury) scored her first goal of the season in double overtime to give Union a 1-0 win at Oswego in field hockey action. Benoit found the back of the net in the 98th minute amidst a scramble in front to make it two straight for the Dutchwomen.
Freshman goaltender Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/Kennebunk) made four saves for the shutout in a defensive contest that saw a total of nine shots on goal.
Union and Oswego were knotted at three shots apiece in the first half before the Lakers outshot the Dutchwomen 3-1 in the second half. Despite the advantage Wakeland was called upon to make just one save. There were just two shots in the overtime sessions with Benoit's being the only one on net. After receiving a pass through traffic from senior Kristin Murphy (Branford, CT/Branford) on the left, Benoit beat Oswego goalie Kaitlin Daniels with a low shot. Daniels finished with four saves.
Union looks to make it three straight when they host Williams on Tuesday, September 13th at 5:30 p.m.
