SCHENECTADY, NY – A goal midway through the first half by Union College sophomore Ashley Brown (Plainville, CT/ Suffield Academy) lifted the Dutchwomen to a 1-0 victory over Skidmore in Liberty League action at College Park Field Wednesday evening. Union improves to 7-2-3 and remains unbeaten in Liberty League play at 4-0-1. The loss snaps a 10-game unbeaten streak for the Thoroughbreds, who fall to 8-2-3 and 3-1-1 in the conference.
Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT/ East Lyme) set up the lone goal of the game with a pass up into the box to Brown, who fired a low shot to the right of Skidmore junior goaltender Liza Mills (Setauket, NY/ Ward Melville).
Mills made two saves for the Thoroughbreds, while Union freshman keeper Mia Simone (Rexford, NY/ Academy of the Holy Names) stopped one shot for her fourth shutout of the season.
Union outshot Skidmore 7-5, and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Fouls were close as the Thoroughbreds had 14 to the Dutchwomen's 13.
Union is back in action on Saturday when the Dutchwomen travel to Hartwick for a 2 p.m. game. Skidmore hosts Utica at noon on Saturday.
