PITTSBURGH, PA – The Union College women's hockey team dropped its season opener at Robert Morris University, 7-2, Saturday evening in non-conference action.
Elise Nichols (Pittsfield, MA) led the Dutchwomen with a goal and an assist.
Union (0-1-0) got on the board early with a
Jackie Koetteritz (Breckenridge, CO) power-play tally at 3:31 of the first period. The goal, assisted by Nichols and
Lauren Muske (Ramsey, MN) marked the first of Koettertiz's career, and the assist was the first for Muske.
The Colonials (1-4-1) evened the score at 6:00 on a power-play goal by Megan Picnic, but the Dutchwomen answered back a minute later with a short-handed goal by Nichols.
Katelyn Aitcheson (Stratford, ONT) assisted on the goal.
Kristen Miles gave Robert Morris the lead with less than six minutes to play in the first period on a power play goal. The Colonials went on to score five unanswered goals in the remainder of the game. Miles netted two goals in the second period to register the hat trick.
Sophomore
Danielle Kimble (Reston, VA) made 18 saves in 55:57 minutes in the loss, while
Alex Zirbel (Clearwater, FL) made one save in the remainder of the game. Robert Morris goaltender Brianne McLaughlin made 10 saves.
The Dutchwomen are back in action against the Colonials tomorrow in a 2 p.m. game.
