PITTSBURGH, PA – A late goal by Robert Morris freshman Chelsea Walkland lifted the Colonials to a 3-2 victory over Union College in non-coference women's hockey action Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Gabi Wintner (Calgary, ALB) and senior captain Kelly Lannan (Winchester, MA) led the Dutchwomen with a goal and an assist each.

 

The Colonials (2-4-1) scored two second-period goals to take a 2-0 lead going into the third period, but the Dutchwomen answered back with a power-play goal from Lannan less than five minutes into the third period. The goal marked the first on the year for Lannan. Sophomore Suzy Pocock (Sterling Heights, MI) and Wintner assisted on the tally. Pocock, who leads the team with four points on the season (0-3-3) finished the game with two assists.

 

Union (0-2-0) knotted the game at 2-2 at 13:09 of the third on an even-strength goal by Wintner, with Pocock and Lannan assisting.

 

Walkland broke the tie with the game-winner less than a minute later with a power-play goal, her first career tally.

 

Alex Zirbel (Clearwater, FL), who ranks second among ECAC Hockey League goaltenders with a .919 save percentage, made a season-high 33 saves for the Dutchwomen. Brianne McLaughlin stopped 25 saves for the Colonials.

 

Robert Morris held a 37-27 shot advantage and won 37 of 61 faceoffs. The Dutchwomen had a season-high 10 shots on the power play, converting one of eight chances.

 

The Dutchwomen are back in action on Friday, October 20, when they host Sacred Heart for a 7 p.m. game at Messa Rink. The two teams face off again on Saturday at 2 p.m.
